Tuning: Standard, no capo

Where people seem to be going wrong is assuming the intro and verse chords are Em and Am
when they’re actually
Dmadd9, Fmaj7 and Am.

Look at this live performance by the band www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIoLe7c_iZ0

The guitar is tuned down half a step in the video and there are only glimpses of his
fretting hand but you can
see that the guitarist is definitely not playing Em.

I think he plays the intro like this :-

      Dmadd9 Fmaj7 Dmadd9 Am
e|------0-----------0--------------0----------0-----------------------------|
B|------3-----------1--------------3----------1-----------------------------|
G|------2-----------2--------------2----------2-----------------------------|
D|------3-----------3--------------3----------2-----------------------------|
A|------x-----------3--------------x----------0-----------------------------|
E|------x-----------x--------------x----------x-----------------------------|

When you’re playing Dmadd9, if you fret the B string at the 3rd fret with your little
finger but also keep your
first finger down at the 1st fret, on the same string, at the same time, it makes the
move to Fmaj7 a doddle.

As an alternative, I’ve been experimenting with playing the intro with Asus4 instead
of the repeat of Dmadd9, so
it looks like this :-

      Dmadd9 Fmaj7 Asus4 Am
e|------0-----------0--------------0----------0-----------------------------|
B|------3-----------1--------------3----------1-----------------------------|
G|------2-----------2--------------2----------2-----------------------------|
D|------3-----------3--------------2----------2-----------------------------|
A|------x-----------3--------------0----------0-----------------------------|
E|------x-----------x--------------x----------x-----------------------------|

Again, play the B string at the 3rd fret with your little finger but also keep your
first finger down at the 1st
fret for a super smooth change to Am.

I’ll put the chords up over the full song below the way I play it, as to my ear,
there’s also an additional couple
of chords further on.

Hope this helps someone.

Intro

Dmadd9 Fmaj7 Dmadd9 Am

G Am Cadd9 C

But if you lie to me again
            F G

Middle 8

F Am
Is it all in my head or was it something I said
                                                     F
Because I’m tryin’ to forgive, and now I’m tryin’ to forget
                                                  Am
You’re telling me all of this, no more hearing of it
                                         F
It was all just a lie, was it all just a lie
                                              Am
Now I’m walking away ‘cos everything that you say
                                G
All that you ever tell to me is lies, lies

Bridge

Cmaj7 F G AM G C C C C C Cmaj7 F
Honest Honest Is it in you to be hon....est

Chorus

Am F G
Say what it is you're tryin’ to say
                     Am
But if you lie to me again
            F G
I'll be the one that walks away
                   Am F G
Is it in you to be honest, honest
G C C C C C Cmaj7 F
Is it in you to be hon....est

G C C C C C Cmaj7 F
Is it in you to be hon....est
